“The Ultimate China Experience: Chinese language and Culture”3-Week Summer Session – Mid/late May to early June
The China Program offers a 3-week session annually at the end of Spring semester (around mid/late May to early June) at the Shanghai University for Science and Technology. Join us for an authentic China experience and earn 3 units of course credit, which can be used towards your Chinese Minor.*
Spend three weeks in Shanghai, the largest cosmopolitan city of China with native Chinese-speaking professors in a total immersion environment for learning the Chinese language and culture. Enjoy one-on-one partnering with a native Chinese college student, socializing with local Chinese people, tour the best of China’s traditional architecture and gardens, museums and galleries, and witness the amazing development of China’s modernization. Participate in culture events on a daily basis such as Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting arts, Peking Opera and making dumplings. Visit Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang province in China, noted for its beautiful natural scenery and long history. Tour Suzhou, an ancient city for its profound culture heritage, including canals, stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed gardens.
Course credit earned will be applied to your Spring semester at California State University, Fresno. This means that you do not pay additional tuition for this course if you are enrolled as a student in Spring semester. Enrollment is limited.
Course:
AH 105 - 30: Arts & Humanities Study Abroad Experience (open for enrollment in Fall semester)
*Prerequisite: Chinese 1A or equivalent (or enroll in Chinese 1A in Spring semester)
*Estimated Cost: $2,000 - $3,000 (including course fees, visa, flight, accommodation, meals, insurance, and trips in/near Shanghai)
*IRA and CGE travel support possible
*Chinese Minor: 18 units in total (a 2.0 GPA and 6 upper-division units in residence)
15 units: Select from CHIN 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 100, and LING 190
3 units: Approved elective select from ANTH 124, 125, 126 or a course approved by the Chinese program coordinator (including the Shanghai study program)
